Rain forecast and vanlife

Anyone that lives in a van will tell you that raindays are the worst. Especially if the van is small and you don’t have a set up for drying the wet clothes (like us).

Rain in a van is the worst, you get condensation and everything is damped. There’s no place to dry all the wet clothes – yet rain while you live in a van is inventible.

So what do we do when the forecast says rain?

We always try to schedule ahead, but those who knows us in real life also knows that the “always try” means that we most likely find out an hour before the rain starts pouring.

When we figure out that it is going to rain, I immediately look for science museums, children museums or soft plays/trampoline parks.

Some days if we know it will clear later that day, we put on our rainwear and imbrace the weather, but most times we take cover.

I find it easy to find children museums, libaries and sceince museums in the north of Europe, but the more south you get, the harder it is to find and the longer in between it gets.

They have great outdoor playgrounds in Spain but very few of science museums or children museums.

So what do you do when there are no place for kids to go?

When we can not find any museums, or soft plays or libaries (that have play areas) we head to the mall.
The mall? Yes, the mall. My husband works and need the van, so Nohr and I will go to the mall have a date, try a few arcade stuff and wait for the weather to pass.

If Nico doesn’t need the van we have plenty of board games, drawing stuff, we listen to an audio book and we build lego or marble runs.

If we have known for a few days that the weather is going to be bad and there’s nothing to do near by, we will find a cafĂ© that Nico can work from.
I will stock up on snacks, find a movie we can watch, and we will play board games, read and play with Nohr’s toys inside the van.
